Started the day by being typical aunties and uncle by going to the grocery store. I love it haha I like to see what people buy, what brands are popular and what isn't.
For breakfast we were sooooo basic and simply ordered Macs.
Coffee was kinda meh but the food was good.
Anyway can we put our hands together for no straws please? :D
We wandered over to Trafalgar Square and looked at the sights :> Apparently there was also a paralympic race happening :O
We then took the train to the area around Big Ben (what station I also cannot remember sorry T_T)
Big ben under construction ah well
We then walked to see the buildings around and ZOMG SAM CAN'T REMEMBER ANYTHING COZ IT'S BEEN AGES SINCE THE VISIT SHAME ON HER COW I'm really sorry I'll update this post when I remember here's a photo dump in the meantime.
Walking along and across the Thymes river was beautiful I really enjoyed sightseeing.
My friend also really kindly let us visit her student accommodation where we could go to the roof area to take a picture of the view :> There was even a cute red telephone booth in her accommodation.
We headed to the Borough Market area (8 Southwark St, London SE1 1TL, UK) after getting a bit lost finding the station near my friend's place and IT WASN'T THE FULL MARKET SOB CRY. What did I expect it was a monday after all. Go on the weekend, or at least any day other than a monday. Sigh. The place was so sad with just... shops closed and empty I have nothing to show you.
We took refuge in some random coffee place just coz we needed a break from the walking and to use the toilet
WE HAD NO FOOD sooooo we headed over to Dishoom (12 Upper St Martin's Ln, London WC2H 9FB, UK) near our place. The queue was terrifying and we opted to sit in the hot sun in order to get seated earlier. I think I regret this because the sun was so hot I gave up and actually opened my umbrella to block the sun while we were waiting. Try your best to get a table inside the restaurant. The restaurant is quite big and the interior is actually really cool and pretty.
Food wise... no need la guys. Unless you are already in London for ages and craving Indian food, then no need. All our indian food in Singapore is pretty decent and Dishoom is... also just decent.
British Museum was the next stop and... I really think I'm not the museum kind of person. I should stop trying to be who I'm not. I would gladly watch a musical over a museum visit unfortunately :/
And here are some of the exhibits.
CAN I JUST MENTION. the top floors were FREAKING HOT in the summer?! like almost an oven idek how the artifacts are surviving.
The pic below was not one of the main exhibits, but this was a long long long fishing net display with pills. This was to signify the amount of medicine an average human would consume in their lifetime, dispensed by their doctors and one wonders if it really is all that necessary.
We then headed to shop along Oxford street and idek why my parents can walk anymore but shopping I think they generally okay la yeah. They is healthy they is strong!
Tottenham Court Primark (14-28 Oxford St, Fitzrovia, London W1D 1AU, UK) was HUGE with a specific section for Harry Potter stuff how could I even resist? I couldn't resist to a point I didn't take a picture of it SORRY. Just so you know the other primark at the other end of oxford street doesn't have this specific harry potter corner, but it still had other harry potter merch that I didn't find in the tottemham court primark :O specifically I found slippers and a snitch keychain.
Nearby was this TKmaxx place (120 Charing Cross Rd, London WC2H 0JR, UK) that we discovered by chance AND WE WERE SO HAPPY IT'S LIKE WINNERS IN CANADA branded stuff for less. I bought a tangle teaser for only 8 pounds I think :D and belts for about 5 pounds each.
There were a lot of other cute shops like this Tiger and Lush. Woah this lush is humongous and the prices are quite reasonable compared to Singapore?! I regret only buying one shampoo bar.
We then had our late dinner at Flat Iron (17-18 Henrietta St, Covent Garden, London WC2E 8QH, UK). This was the one meal everyone raved about before I went and IT ABSOLUTELY DID NOT DISAPPOINT I LOVED IT AND I MISS IT TILL THIS DAY.
The first pic on top is medium and the second is a blur pic of medium well with flash. I personally much rather the meat be medium. The taste was much more flavourful and not that bloody. But my mum hates it and claims the medium well is better. #no
This was our bill and we received these cute tiny knives as souvenirs. You can actually buy the big knife they give you to eat your steak with. cute.
